Rotten: A Sensory Assault, or Without Due Care and Attention

IMG_1841

I wasn’t enjoying this fruit bowl. And it shows. You can see my attention wane from right to left in the picture (I was moderately pleased with the “union” of the bananas). The muddy oval fruits on the left are lemons (no, honestly) and there was a basic perspective problem with the basket…

I thought I could fix it by cutting it out while I was really more concerned with other matters, and “re-invigorate” it on a red piece of paper. The work knows when you’re not on it’s side! I even feel mildly irritated writing this. Why did I continue to spend time on it? Why I am even posting it on the internet? Are my words are aggressive as my colour choices? Could I even have PMT ?

The red theme must have reminded me of my Russian friends, who would always try to start articles and essays with a title in the style of “Dr Strangelove: or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb”, which they explained to me was infact, the most elegant headline form in Russia.

The questions I’ve posed seem rhetorical, but they are a call to armchair psychologists: don’t hold back if you’ve any insights to offer 😉

  1. I can relate to the “mildly irritated” thing. But you now what? I’m really digging that square chrome fruit “basket”. You really captured it – and my eye goes to that and the red makes it pop. There’s something here.
